Welcome to Cville Village!
WHAT IS THE VILLAGE MOVEMENT ?
The Village Movement is a nonprofit service model that has emerged in recent years as a way to provide support to older adults who want to "age in place" in their own homes for as long as possible. A Village isn't buildings or a place to live--it's people. Village volunteers provide simple, practical kinds of help to Village members. The relationships are enriching, the volunteering is rewarding, and each Village contributes to a healthier, stronger and happier community.
We looked beyond conventional solutions. We wanted more freedom and control than we found in models that focus on single issues, such as housing, medical care, or social activities. We wanted to be active, taking care of ourselves and each other rather than being “taken care of.”
A PROVEN MODEL
Beacon Hill Village in Boston, Massachusetts started it all. Older adults there worked together to create a community for mutual help, support, and friendship. It worked so well that other communities adopted the model and today, some 300 Villages are either operating or in development across the nation. Our own Cville Village is one of them! As members of the Village to Village Network, we benefit from the knowledge gained and generously shared by folks in other Villages.
